Mexico Elopement Planning Tips

Elope Tulum! Are There Permits or Beach Fees?

Local Tulum wedding photographers will likely share their favorite spot that they know of, or venue they are connected with, that allows them permission to shoot there. While that may be fine, we would encourage you to double-check with the property owners as there is common miscommunication around what's allowed. The first thing I like to mention to keep in mind, is that Mexico a "developing country" but borderlines on third world. Their standard operations are much different and rules are arbitrary. For this reason, we feel it's best to find a resort/hotel you're mostly interested in, to work directly with, that offers their beach for a private ceremony and accommodations. To keep your day intimate and secluded, I highly recommend finding a smaller boutique hotel with 6-20 rooms that you could potentially rent out the entire area. Or, find one that caters to intimate weddings keeping the public out of your way.

How do we legally get married in Mexico?

Regulations range anywhere from needing to get a doctor to approve a blood sample, having said blood sample, waiting for it process for approval, and honestly is more complicated than it's worth. couples getting married in Mexico typically have their ceremony here, then finish the legal paperwork back in their home state.

Why Tulum is an amazing destination wedding and elopement location

remote, walkable, bikable, mayan beach town tucked in the jungle of the Yucatan Peninsula along the Caribbean

There are opportunities for adventures and once in a lifetime experiences at every turn. Tulum is the closest exotic and remote oasis south of the equator in North America.  You literally need to either take a bus, cab or rent a car to drive an hour and half from Cancun to get here. And once you do, you'll find yourself down a narrow 2-lane road mostly designed for biking and taxis. once you get here, you'll walk or bike to most areas because everything is within close proximity.

Bohemian Beach Town Paradise

There's two potions to Tulum: the main city, and the beach town. The city is about a 15-20 min drive away, depending on traffic. This is definitely the more authentic part of the area, so if you're looking for a city experience town, and to see some amazing salsa dancing and the best mojitos of your life, head this direction. The beach town has a much different vibe; lines with upscale boutiques shops + resorts/hotels, unique airbnb stays, delicious food stands and restaurants and tons of bars to enjoy a cocktail on the rooftop, seaside or even in a swing. you can walk or bike everywhere you need, or simply enjoy the most relaxing time on the beach in a hammock. it's truly paradise.

Jungle Oasis and Cenotes

As your Tulum wedding photographer, we'd love to encourage you to consider an native mayan spiritual ceremony - and consider doing it inside of one of the cenotes or jungle setting. it makes for a magical and unique experience unlike anything you've ever seen. our couple in san miguel had a spiritual ceremony and it was moving beyond words. click here for inspiration What's a cenote? What makes this part of the Rivera Maya so unique is that Tulum sits in a wild, active jungle along the Caribbean coast. you wake up to monkeys and birds chattering from the tree tops, walkway lined with massive palm leaves, all leading to a huge soft, sandy beach. Deep in the jungle, if you're up for the adventure, are underground water caves called cenotes. They sound scarier than they are, and offer some of the most unique snorkeling you'll ever find. Plus-- there's so many to choose from. Make sure to go at the right time to avoid the larger crowds and really take in the experience.

Why you should make us your Tulum Wedding Photographer Team

We're Destination Elopement Wedding Photographers with a deep love for Tulum

From our very first trip, we knew we wanted to be a Tulum wedding photographer. How could we not? And since then, we've actually photographed 2 sessions in Tulum and also captured a destination elopement in San Miguel de Allende. We're ready for the adventure. Have you been before? and dying to go back and even get married there? Or have read all the amazing things about this gem of a Mayan beach town? Isn't it amazing? It's such a better experience than the touristy and cheesy weddings in Cancun (no offense Cancun) But Tulum is a different vibe, and if you're reading this you probably get that. Allen and I adventured here a few years back and fell in love. So much, that we've been back twice since. Just know that when you're ready, so are we, we're even already a part of the Tulum online wedding community to keep up to date and be ready for information we need. As destination elopement planners and curators, we're very use to assisting with all the planning aspects and would love to help plan, guide and be your Tulum wedding photographer.

Don't settle or regret not having the Yosemite Adventure you know you deserve

We’re Lauren and Allen we’re so glad you’re here. That’s us cliffside in Sedona on our elopement day. Many moons ago, we almost went through with having a traditional wedding. We hit a wall with planning (thankfully) and realized the wedding day we were leaning into wasn’t "us". Like a lot of others, we were just going through the motions. It didn’t feel right at all, so we decided to call it off.

A few years later we ditched the traditions and decided on a private wedding adventure entirely about us and the life we enjoy sharing together. But even when eloping, it was a challenge to not get caught up in "what do other people do” and scroll through endless photos influencing what eloping looks like. It was exhausting and almost made us feel like we weren't "good enough" to do something unique for us. So we stopped scrolling. And paused. And asked ourselves, “What feels good to us? What do WE want to do?” And then had the best, most perfectly imperfect day—filled with machaca tacos we made ourselves, a cliffside hike, first dance around a campfire, getting ready in glamp tent and more. It was entirely us, and that’s all that mattered. (Learn more about our elopement day here.)

Ready to do this? Here’s how this works:

  • Reach out to us.
  • We'll meet and chat about your vision(s) in mind for Mexico.
  • We’ll guide you with personal support so your adventure will be 110% authentic to you.
  • You'll have a wedding adventure you’re proud of— not settle or regret choosing anything less than what you deserve.

We’re passionate about personally crafting, capturing and celebrating everything that makes your love yours. Nothing phony. Nothing fake. An adventure and memories of your wedding day that you’ll be proud of, with elopement photographers that have been there and get it.
